IMO Mission to Guinea-Bissau Lays Groundwork for Maritime Single Window at Port of Bissau

The Guinea-Bissau International Ships Registry (GB ISR) is pleased to share the official press release from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding the successful needs assessment mission carried out in Bissau from 5 to 6 May 2025.

This mission marks a significant milestone for the modernization of port operations in Guinea-Bissau, as it lays the foundation for the establishment of a Maritime Single Window (MSW) at the Port of Bissau. The MSW is a critical digital platform that will streamline reporting formalities for ships, improve inter-agency coordination, and enhance port efficiency in alignment with international standards.

In accordance with IMO requirements effective 1 January 2024, all Member States are mandated to implement MSW systems under the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL Convention). The IMO mission, conducted under the Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme (ITCP), involved close collaboration with the Instituto Marítimo e Portuário da Guiné-Bissau (IMPG-B) and key national stakeholders, including customs and border agencies.

The GB ISR welcomes this important step in Guinea-Bissau’s maritime development and reaffirms its support for initiatives that contribute to strengthening the country’s maritime infrastructure, compliance with IMO Conventions, and long-term capacity building.
